About the programme

The Melody Makers Early Years programme provides engaging, developmentally appropriate music sessions for children aged 3–4. I am an Early Years and Disability Studies graduate with over 20 years of piano teaching experience, combining strong child development knowledge with high-quality musicianship. Incorporating live piano accompaniment into the sessions allows me to respond naturally to the children's pace and energy, creating an engaging and interactive experience.

Inclusive learning

Melody Makers Early Years Music sessions go beyond general music and movement classes. Sessions are carefully structured, inclusive and adaptable so that every child can participate meaningfully. Activities support confidence, communication and creativity while introducing children to the foundations of rhythm, listening and musical expression through interactive story based sessions.

My approach reflects the inclusive principles of the SEND Code of Practice, with opportunities for children to participate, communicate and engage in different ways according to their individual needs and stage of development. Repetition, movement, visual cues, sensory exploration and predictable routines help create an accessible and supportive musical experience for all children.

Musical Development Matters in the Early Years

Musical development is an important part of children's early learning. My sessions give children regular opportunities to listen, respond, sing, move, explore rhythm and develop their musical awareness through playful, age-appropriate experiences.

My approach reflects the principles of Musical Development Matters in the Early Years, alongside the EYFS, with music used as a way to support children's communication, confidence, creativity, physical development and social interaction.

Session structure

Interactive musical stories - each session is built around playful stories that bring music to life and keep children fully engaged.

Live piano accompaniment - allows the sessions to adapt naturally to the children, supporting listening, rhythm and engagement in a way recorded music cannot.

Singing and movement games - songs, actions and movement activities that build confidence and coordination.

Rhythm activities - clapping, tapping, and games that gently introduce rhythm patterns.

Listening games - responding to sounds with movement. Exploring tempo, pitch, dynamics and expression.

Themed sessions - linking to current learning and the wider world.
